![]() Lia's Dwarfs is a small rabbitry of 30 holes run by me, Lia Harvey. I'm a youth breeder that raises Netherland Dwarfs in the varieties Otter, Marten, Chestnut, and Broken. I also have Black, Chinchilla, and REW. My first rabbit was a broken black Netherland Dwarf doe that I had purchased from a local pet store during the summer of 2001. I quickly fell in love with the breed's unique characteristics and small size. Shortly after I recieved my first rabbit, I purchased a lop mix. Thinking both were does, I kept them in the same hutch. Not long after that did I have a litter of baby rabbits. I loved having babies around so I kept breeding them and selling them as pets. Years later, after I had quit breeding my backyard bunnies, I discovered the ARBA. I was unaware that people actually showed their rabbits and raised them according to a standard. I began to search the Internet for new information and decided that breeding and showing rabbits would be a fun hobby. I didn't have to think for long before I decided that I wanted to raise Netherland Dwarfs. I joined the ARBA and the ANDRC. Then came the tricky part, finding the first trio. I searched the Internet looking for breeder Websites. I came across a couple of breeders in Illinois and sent them e-mails explaining what I was looking for. Twila Coffey gave me Laura Wendel's number and I called her to arrange a visit to her rabbitry. It was June 10, 2007 when I went to Laura's rabbitry with my parents. Laura generously spent a couple of hours explaining the basics and putting together my first pair. I went home with a black otter jr. buck and a sable marten sr. doe. A couple of weeks later I returned to Laura's to pick up a smoke pearl marten jr. doe. I finally had my first trio. At first, my Dwarfs were kept in my basement. Within a year, my Dwarfs were moved into a shed in my backyard.
